Over the past two years, the Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association (SCMA) leadership has been working with the NHLA Rules Committee regarding proposed changes to cypress grading rules, sawmill production and customer demand.
At the end of October, NHLA membership will be asked to vote on the proposed changes to NHLA Hardwood Lumber Grading Rules, including the revised rules for cypress.
SCMA leadership strongly supports those changes. "It's been a number of years since the rules were last updated," says SCMA president Shepard Haggerty. "Our goal is for all cypress suppliers to distribute a consistently higher-quality product, and we believe the revised grading rules will support that effort."
The proposed rules changes will be discussed on Thursday, October 3 during the NHLA Rules Forum at the 2013 NHLA Annual Convention. The Rules Change Review will be facilitated by NHLA Chief Inspector Dana Spessert.
