We have word that there is a substantial possibility that Congress will consider a permanent legislative solution to the question of requiring point-source permitting for forest roads during the forthcoming “lame duck” session, most likely during December. Although no specific legislative vehicle has been identified to which we might attach the terms of the Silviculture Regulatory Consistency Act, there are several possible vehicles, and our side will be alert to acting on appropriate opportunities.
You can help! Please contact your legislators, and send them a message that action on fixing the “forest roads” issue during the lame duck is important to you. It’s easy: we have placed a model letter in the FRA Take Action! module—enter your name and address into the module, then proceed to the next screen to review and, if you wish, modify and personalize the model letter. Then a single click will send it to your Representative and both of your Senators. Action from all of our members on this request will be very influential in moving this legislation onto the lame duck agenda and obtaining favorable action.
